// National Private Pilots Licence - NPPL(M)
If you’re looking to fly microlights recreationally and share the adventure with a friend or family member at an affordable rate, the NPPL(M) is the licence for you. Microlights are defined by their weight class and are essentially just small aircraft designed for one or two people.
Purple Aviation carries out NPPL training from Eshott Airfield on the C42 Ikarus and EV97 Eurostar - fast, comfortable and modern aircraft that make ideal touring machines once you’ve learnt to fly. Click below to book a trial flying lesson with Purple Aviation at Eshott Airfield.
The NPPL(M) requires a minimum of 25 hours flying time – 10 of which are solo. You’ll take a skills test which will examine your general handling and navigation skills.
There are also nine multiple choice exams to be completed covering important topics including:
Human Performance & Limitations
Aeroplanes General Knowledge
You’ll have to passed basic medical with a CAA approved doctor. Purple Aviation can help you source a doctor for your medical - generally speaking if you’re fit and well enough to drive a car, you’re well enough to fly an aircraft!
When you’ve completed your course, the LAPL(A) will allow you to fly aircraft in daylight hours in reasonable weather - this is known as Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flying.
After completing your training, you can continue you rent aircraft from Purple Aviation to build your hours or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery of Northumberland. You can convert your LAPL(A) to a PPL(A) with a short conversion.
Purple Aviation also offers the Light Aircraft Pilots Licence (LAPL). This licence is a more affordable version of the PPL(A) but with additional restrictions such as a maximum aircraft weight of 2000kg and a maximum of three passengers.
